Plainfield's population roughly tripled during the 2000s building boom, and most of those homes still run the original production-builder furnace that went in with the house. That equipment wasn't cheap or bad — it's simply now old enough that the parts with a defined service life are reaching the end of it: hot surface igniters, flame sensors, draft inducer motors, pressure switches. None of those are exotic failures. They're the predictable, well-understood wear points on a 15-20 year old gas furnace.
That's exactly why we don't start a furnace call by quoting a new system. We check the igniter's resistance, look at the flame sensor for carbon buildup, verify the pressure switch is reading draft correctly, and watch a full ignition cycle before deciding what's actually broken. Most of the time it's one part, not the whole furnace.
